“Believe in your talent and make the world run better!”

3 Questions to Prof. Dr. Peter Mirski* – Founder and visionary mind of OPENSKIMR

Peter, what is the core idea behind OPENSKIMR and how did it come to your mind?

As co-founder of one of the first digitalization degree programs in Europe, called ‘Management, Communication & IT’ at the Entrepreneurial University© MCI, we faced from the very beginning the problem that the description of digital education units in a degree program is not very transparent for the labor market. Therefore we always tried to find possibilities to enhance the transparency for our alumni in order to help them to enter the labor market easily and show their expertise in business as well as in communication and IT. When we came across the talent platform Academy Cube, which was originally presented in 2013 at CEBIT by Jim Hagemann Snabe[1] and EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes, we were absolutely thrilled by the idea of triangulation of skills, education and job opportunities. Sure, if you dig deeper you face a lot of interesting challenges which we are trying to meet in our OPENSKIMR research project.

The core idea of OPENSKIMR is to mentor young talents through this triangulation with a life-long digital companion, which continuously supports them in their endeavor to leverage their career constantly. Our aim is to present which interesting job opportunities are out there, which challenges do exist, and how it is possible to combine current knowledge with possible – free of charge – educational snippets, so that talents can outperform, create and sustain their career.

What is your vision for OPENSKIMR?

Well, my vision is that we will be able to describe digital skills, job opportunities and education, in a way that the combination of these three parts really support young people to design their careers. My vision also includes the idea that OPENSKIMR, as the name tells, will be an open platform which can be used by for example labor agencies or companies all over Europe in order to solve this problem. These institutions could use our algorithms and know-how in order to match make future challenges towards the best talents available. The backbone for this OPENSKIMR endeavor shall be a very intensive and vibrant, young and inspiring community which is triggered by Academy Cube[2].

What is your message to young talents that want to build their career?

My message is that young talents should believe in their own talents and try to realize their dreams. They should seek for challenges which they think it does make sense to work on and which are meaningful for them. Then, perhaps supported by OPENSKIMR, finding the right education and the right content, which is needed to solve these problems, would be available at your fingertips.

Believe in your career, believe in your talent and make the world run better!

  1. I’m extremely impressed together with your writing abilities as neatly as
with the structure on your weblog. Is that this a
paid topic or did you modify it your self? Either way
keep up the nice quality writing, it’s uncommon to see a nice weblog like this one these
